Q: Where are you from?
A: Toronto, Canada.

Q: What disability do you have?
A: I was born with a type of Muscular Dystrophy called Spinal Muscular Atrophy.

Q: Your wheelchair is so cool. Can you tell me more about it?
A: Thanks I totally agree! The fact that my wheelchair can elevate is a huge benefit. I can adjust my height for different photos I take, I can engage with people at eye-level...and I can see which ice cream flavours I want at the counter.

Q: Did you ever go to school for photography, or take any courses?
A: Nope, I'm pretty much self taught. I did however, study Media at Ryerson University. I think my background in media communications, art and in theatre has really influenced my photography.

Q: Do you always use Photoshop?
A: Yes, I do all of my own processing in Photoshop and Lightroom before I consider any photo finished.

Q: What gear are you using?
A: Right now I'm shooting with a Canon 5D II. For lenses I've been pretty minimal, usually sticking with my 50mm. I'm not a big fan of zoom lenses. It's important to me to be part of what I am shooting. I find zoom lenses are too removed.
In my studio, I light with Profoto D1s.

Q: Where do you see yourself in five years?
A: Creating a more accessible world and furthering my goal to raise awareness for diabilities in the arts. It is an on going mission of mine that I am very passionate about.

Q: What is your dream job?
A: I love photographing people who are passionate about the work they do, and engaging with people who are dedicated to creating positive impact in the world.

Q: How do you pronounce your name?!
A: It's actually pronounced ma-a-yan but not even my mother says it like that.
